There are huts in the Semmering-Rax region that are easy to reach - by car, by RUFbus or by public transport for an easy ascent to the mountain experience.
The Edelweiss Huts is located directly on the Preiner Gscheid. The Preiner Gscheid is a pass between the provinces of Lower Austria and Styria. Numerous hikes to the Rax can be started from the Preiner Gscheid.
The Weichtalhaus is located in the picturesque Höllental and is a training and climbing centre for nature lovers. Culinary delights are served by hut keeper Manu with regional specialities.
The Speckbacherhütte on the Kreuzberg at 1,089 metres is an insider tip for lovers of good food. You should definitely try the "Momos", filled Nepalese dumplings. Directly in front of the hut is an impressive 110-year-old rhododendron covering an area of around 131 m², which is in full bloom every year in May.
The Enzianhütte is a popular destination for hikers in summer and winter sports enthusiasts in winter. In summer, the hut is easily accessible by car via the forest road. Sunny, the hut keeper, spoils her guests with home-made hut food and delicious pastries.
The Grenzlandhütte owes its name to its special location: it is situated right on the border between Lower Austria and Styria, in the village of Semmering. The hut can be rented and offers space for up to 32 people.
