Whether with snow on the peaks or snow-free in the valley – winter in two facets
Who says winter always has to be white? In the Semmering-Rax region, the cold season unfolds in two facets: on the peaks, the snow sparkles in the winter sun, while in the valley, the paths are open and offer space to breathe deeply, discover and enjoy. Winter hiking through quiet forests or relaxed strolls through town – here, winter experiences open up away from the hustle and bustle of the slopes. Events bring culture and conviviality to the season, laughter fills the air during curling, and the aroma of regional specialities tempts you into the taverns. Winter is not cancelled here – it is consciously experienced in its own way, depending on whether the snow remains on the ground or can only be observed from the peaks.
The region opens up for special moments during the quiet season: The Schlossadvent in Reichenau and the Schlossadvent in Gloggnitz invite you into historic walls, courtyards and warming fireplaces . Those who love culture can experience KultZelt Payerbach at the beginning of January with music from many decades.
A stroll through the city in the cold season has its charm. Around the main square and through the panorama park , you can take a leisurely stroll through shop windows - and if you want, you can combine the stroll with the cultural trail for an insight into the past and present.
In winter, there is often more time for good food and conversation. In the two award-winning restaurants in the region or in one of the many excellent inns, restaurants and huts, evenings can be spent quietly and enjoyably - with regional cuisine and fine wines.

After the golden autumn, the region's landscape shows itself in a new light. On paved paths in the valley or on quiet trails in the forest, every step becomes a little break. The clear air, the view into the distance and the rustling of branches accompany hikers through the quiet season.
A special tip leads to the viewpoints on the Semmering - along the former grand hotels and the UNESCO World Heritage Semmering railway line. History, architecture and nature merge here to create an impressive experience.

A little further on, the route takes you along the Sonnenpromenade, which offers stunning views of the valley and mountains. Afterwards, a visit to the Vinodukt is well worthwhile: a guided tour with multimedia show and wine tasting combines history with pleasure. (pre-booking required)
