When the heat in the city in summer or the fog in winter weighs heavily on your mood, it's time for a change of scenery. If you want to get away from it all, you don't need to travel far. A completely different world awaits just over an hour away from Vienna: Semmering and Rax.
The cable car takes you up to the 1340 m high Hirschenkogel - a starting point for active days in the fresh mountain air. In summer, spend the day in the forest ropes course at the Hirschi playground or in the Liechtensteinhaus on the mountain. Down into the valley with the mountain carts, through the bike park or round off the day with a hike.
In winter, the largest night skiing area in Lower Austria attracts winter sports enthusiasts. Skiing and snowboarding there, day and night, where the athletes of the AUDI FIS Women's Ski World Cup show what they can do.
The Rax cable car takes you even higher: it only takes eight minutes to get from Hirschwang to the 1546 m high Rax plateau. Whether for hut hopping in summer or on a snowshoe tour in winter, the Rax is a popular excursion destination all year round and shows a different side at any time of year. Hop from hut to hut and enjoy the unspoilt natural surroundings with every breath you take. Snowshoes are easy to hire on site.
Ideal for first attempts in the snow. The Happylift is located directly opposite the valley station of the mountain railway. The gentle slope is perfect for families with children and beginners. Thanks to the floodlights, it is also possible to practise later in the afternoon - without any time pressure. There is a toboggan run next to the practice slope for all those who are not on two skis.
