Family time on the Rax

The Rax is also an ideal destination for families with children. The Rax cable car takes you up to the high plateau in just eight minutes. From there, a hike takes around 40 minutes to the Ottohaus - perfect for anyone looking for a real mountain experience with children. Back carriers for small children can also be hired at the mountain inn. If you want to make the journey to Hirschwang extra special, take the historic carriages of the Höllentalbahn railway - a little trip back in time included.

As a companion for children who are already hiking themselves, there is a free app with radio play stories "Radio play adventures in nature" and puzzles to accompany the Rax hike.

Cooling off guaranteed: Swimming, rafting, marvelling

When the temperatures rise, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy refreshing moments in the region: The outdoor pools in Payerbach, Edlach, Neunkirchen and Gloggnitz entice visitors with slides, play areas, shady spots and spacious sunbathing lawns.

For all those who love adventure, Wild Nasswald is the right place: rafting and tubing tours on the Schwarzau with experienced guides.

The Grillenberg show mine offers a completely different form of cooling off: the temperature underground is a pleasant 8 °C - ideal for taking a deep breath. Guided tours take place every Saturday or by appointment from May to October - exciting and educational at the same time.

Adventure on the Semmering

A day trip to the Hirschenkogel in Semmering offers everything families need: The cable car takes you comfortably to the top, where a forest ropes course, the Hirschi playground and, for children aged 8 and over, the Semmering Bike Park await. Those who like it fast can take the mountain cart back down to the valley.

Nature experience for little adventurers

The Falkenstein Nature Park near Schwarzau im Gebirge offers a real nature experience for children. A playground, an animal enclosure and a pond with feeding facilities add variety to the day.
