The Speckbacherhütte on the Kreuzberg, at 1,089 meters, is considered an insider’s tip for lovers of fine cuisine. It’s an excellent starting point or destination for a hike and is also easily accessible by car. From here, an impressive view opens up of the highest part of the Rax, the Kampalpe, and the Sonnwendstein—a panorama that quickly makes everyday life fade into the background. Right in front of the hut, a true natural wonder thrives: a rhododendron over 110 years old, covering an area of about 131 m², which delights visitors every May when it’s in full bloom.
Cuisine
Seasonal delicacies from the region, complemented by tried-and-true home-style dishes such as wood-oven-roasted pork with bread dumplings and bacon-cabbage salad or fine schnitzel, are just as much a part of the menu as homemade pastries.
