Description
The municipality of Ternitz in the district of Neunkirchen is located in the lower Schwarzatal valley. The municipality includes the Gösing-Hochberg group - the highest point at 898 meters. The town is characterized by beautiful excursion destinations such as the Sierningtal-Flatzer Wand Nature Park. Well-known sights include Stixenstein Castle and the Dunkelstein ruins as well as several churches - such as the listed Ternitz parish church.
Ternitz is also the birthplace of many famous personalities from the worlds of art and politics, including songwriter Herbert Hirschler and sculptor Kurt Ingerl. The municipality also became famous as an Austrian film set: for "Ternitz, Tennessee" with Nina Proll and Gerald Votava from the year 2000.
Ternitz: hikes and cycle paths for families
The 609-metre-high Gfieder is considered Ternitz's local mountain. From its lookout point, the view extends as far as Semmering, Rax and Schneeberg. There are also many other beautiful routes in and around Ternitz: from bike tours to hikes.
