In the footsteps of the imperial couple: In Reichenau an der Rax, a health resort known for its therapeutic climate, visitors can stroll through the castle park of the Imperial Villa Wartholz and relax with a cup of coffee in the historic setting of the castle nursery.
Wartholz Castle was once the summer residence of Emperor Karl and Empress Zita and, along with its spacious grounds, is now privately owned. Since the revitalized castle nursery opened as a garden center, part of the imperial castle park has been open to the public. From here, visitors can enjoy a wonderful view of the architecturally charming castle nursery and the imposing Rax Mountains.
You can also soak up the courtly ambiance in its elegant café or while shopping in the interior design store. For culture enthusiasts, the Schlossgärtnerei also offers regular readings at the Wartholz Literary Salon, as well as recitals, concerts, and summer movie screenings. The venue is also a wonderful setting for wedding celebrations.
2026 is the year of anniversaries in the Semmering-Rax region: 20 years of the Wartholz Castle Orangery and numerous other anniversaries will be celebrated.
