Make sure when choosing the route that it corresponds to your experience and fitness . Check the weather forecast in advance.

Running tips:

Start slowly to gradually stimulate circulation. After about 10 minutes take a short break with stretching exercises. Vary the pace to increase performance gains. Avoid overexertion especially on steep sections; rather walk if you don't have the basic fitness. Observe warm-up and cool-down phases. Let the run fade out and do not stretch too intensely afterwards!

Wear appropriate clothing and good running shoes. Remember rain and sun protection. Take enough to drink with you

Starting point at Schlossplatz; turn left uphill, passing the Rudolfsvilla (Sisi’s Castle), continue straight ahead to the Thalhof, pass it and continue to “Scheiterplatz”; turn right onto the forest road, pass the City of Vienna’s forester’s lodge, and continue into the Schneedörfl district. After the fire station, turn right onto Schneedörflstraße and immediately left down “Artzbergweg” to the forest. Follow the narrow forest path to the right until you reach the Höllentalbahn railroad crossing. Cross the crossing and head down the valley, then turn left and walk through the woods to the Barbarapromenade, and turn right back to Schlossplatz Reichenau.

From Vienna, take the A2 Südautobahn to the S6 Semmering Expressway and take the Gloggnitz exit. Continue on the B27 to Reichenau and turn right at Erlangerplatz.

From Graz, take the S6 Semmering Expressway and exit at Gloggnitz. Continue on the B27 to Reichenau and turn right at Erlangerplatz.

Take the Südbahn to the Payerbach-Reichenau station . Buses run at regular intervals between the station and Erlangerplatz. (About a 5-minute walk to the castle.) Alternatively, book a private ride with the RUFbus Semmering-Rax.
