Description

Demanding hike to the Talhof estate and on to the Orthof and past imposing turn-of-the-century villas to the Speckbacherhütte on the Kreuzberg. The trail offers fantastic views towards Semmering, Rax and Schneeberg. A short detour leads from the hiking trail to the Weinzettelwand, with two viewpoints to Breitenstein and Semmering. The Blunzenwirtin, Speckbacherhütte, Gasthof Polleres and Althammerhof offer refreshment stops.

Route description The hike begins at the municipal office in Breitenstein, where there is also a hiking overview board. (Hiking trail A) From there, follow the road downhill to the "Semmeringstraße" intersection, turn right, and turn onto Kalte-Rinne-Straße at the Blunzenwirt.The path leads inward along Kalte-Rinne-Straße, past the Kalte Rinne to the bend below the Falkensteiner Wall. Continuing straight on the forest road, you reach the estate Talhof (former residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein). On the right, the gravel path starts, passing Talhof Castle and then entering the forest to the Luckerten Wall.Following the markings, continue to Orthof. At the Orthof junction, proceed towards the Speckbacherhütte. The hiking trail first crosses an access road, then a wooded area, and finally asphalt again to the Speckbacherhütte. From there, a forest path runs eastward along the ridge to the Gasthof Polleres.After the Gasthof Polleres, continue straight on Althammerhofstraße to Klamm. Take the hollow path to the parish church, then turn right onto Musikerweg, which runs to the left of the Semmering railway. From here, follow the railway hiking trail - passing the Wagnerviadukt and Gamperlviadukt.As soon as the road is regained, after about 300 meters turn left across a meadow and take the detour to the viewpoints on the Weinzettlwand. Immediately after the meadow, a forest road leads down on the left, past a former railway watchman's hut, and joins the road, which you follow to the children's locomotive. From there, re-enter the forest and return via Lindensstraße to the starting point of the hike.

Getting there Coming from Vienna via the S6 to the Gloggnitz exit. Then follow the state road to Schottwien. In Schottwien, turn towards Breitenstein at the junction. Then follow the road through the Adlitzgraben to Breitenstein.Coming from Graz, take the S35 and S6 to the Spital/S exit. Turn towards Semmering and follow the road to Breitenstein.
Public transport Travel by train to Breitenstein station. The municipal office is located directly below the station.Alternatively, book an individual trip with the RUFbus Semmering-Rax, which will take you to Breitenstein.
