From literary roots to modern stage forms
The connection between literature, theatre and the Semmering-Rax region has a long tradition. Even Arthur Schnitzler, Heimito von Doderer and Franz Werfel found inspiration for their works here. This cultural influence continues to this day: in addition to classical stage plays, cabaret, staged readings and open-air productions enrich the programme.
The Festspiele Reichenau is a highlight, but smaller formats also impressively bring the literary heritage to the stage. And there is no shortage of humour either - many events invite you to laugh together with cabaret elements.
