10 rules of behaviour when encountering grazing livestock

Grazing animals are simply part of the alpine pastures and mountain pastures. If you are travelling in these areas, you must therefore be careful and attentive. Especially if you are travelling with dogs, caution is advised.

10 rules of behaviour

  1. Avoidcontact with grazing livestock, do not feed animals, keep a safe distance !
  2. Behave calmly, do not frighten grazing cattle!
  3. Mother cows protect their calves, avoid encounters between mother cows and dogs!
  4. Always keep dogs under control and on a short lead. If an attack by a grazing animal is foreseeable: Put them on a lead immediately!
  5. Do not leave marked hiking and cycle paths!
  6. If grazing animals are blocking the path, avoid or cycle round them as far as possible, if necessary push your bike!
  7. When approaching grazing livestock: Stay calm and do not turn your back, avoid the animals!
  8. Leave the grazing area immediately at the first sign of restless animals!
  9. Pay attention to fences! If there is a gate, use it, then close it again and cross the pasture quickly!
  10. Treat the people working here, nature and the animals with respect .
