Gloggnitz is home to Lower Austria’s smallest tavern: the Stiegenwirtshaus.
The building was constructed in the 17th century by the then “Lords of Gloggnitz” as a horse stable and was later converted into a blacksmith’s shop for horseshoes and wagons. According to oral tradition, the building has been an inn since the mid-19th century—with just four tables, the Stiegenwirtshaus is considered the smallest inn in Lower Austria. Here, home-style cooking, snack specialties, and delicacies are freshly prepared.
The Stiegenwirtshaus is located at the end of the railway hiking trail to Gloggnitz and offers the perfect place to stop for a break after a long hike.
