Description

If you like to follow in historical footsteps when hiking on the Rax, the Ottohaus at 1,644 m above sea level is just the place for you. Sigmund Freud, the famous founder of psychoanalysis, was a regular guest at the Knappenhof in Reichenau an der Rax and regularly hiked along the Törlweg up to the refuge. This was built back in 1893 and named after Archduke Otto of Austria.

Today, the Ottohaus is a popular starting point, stopover or place to spend the night on the Rax plateau. It offers both rooms and campsites, ideal for those who want to try out "hut hopping" - a hike from hut to hut through the impressive mountain world of the Rax.

Enjoyment with a view

Whether eating on the terrace or lingering on the nearby viewing platformlookout- the view is simply impressive. The view stretches from the striking Felstörl to far into the valley, while you fortify yourself with homemade hut cuisine.

  • Observatory: Right next to the Ottohaus there is an observatory that offers views of the entire Schwarzatal valley
