When the hills gradually turn into mountains and the scenery slowly passes by, you really start to appreciate the beauty of a cycle tour. These impressions can be particularly enjoyed from May to October on the "Vom Buckl zum Berg" cycle tour, which leads to places with great views and many an excellent inn. From booking accommodation to resting with special cyclist menus, everything has already been prepared.
The sporting and culinary challenge not only challenges your calves, but also your sense of taste. As well as fantastic views, there is always time to visit selected Lower Austrian inns, including the Krumbacherhof and the 2019 Top Inn winner, Wirtshaus Grüner Baum.
Check the weather forecast in advance, and be sure to bring rain gear and sunscreen. Be sure to bring plenty to drink.
We recommend wearing a bike helmet on rides. Wear appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes.
The tour starts at the Krumbacherhof in Krumbach. Follow the Zöbernbach Bike Path along the Zöbernbach stream to Zöbern, then continue through Guggendorf to Aspang, where you’ll join EuroVelo 9. EuroVelo 9 then takes you through Aspang to “Höll,” where the Feistriztal Bike Path begins. From there, you’ll continue on the left side through the Feistritz Valley, cycling leisurely along the babbling Feistritz River until you finally reach Kirchberg am Wechsel. By then, you’ll have earned your lunch—Christian Donhauser, winner of the 2019 TopWirt award for Lower Austrian inn culture, and the Grüner Baum inn will whip up a lunch menu perfect for cyclists. The afternoon includes a bit of an elevation gain: Continuing along the Feistritz Valley Bike Trail, you’ll head toward Raach in the high mountains near Otterthal and finally whiz downhill to Gloggnitz. There, you’ll meet the next top bike route—the Schwarzatal Bike Trail takes you all the way to Ternitz. From here, continue to the left, you’ll arrive in Puchberg am Schneeberg, and with the Schneeberg in view, you’ll finally cover the last few kilometers to Grünbach am Schneeberg, where a regional four-course dinner and a cozy bed await you at the “Zur Schubertlinde” Alpine-style country inn.
The next day, the route takes you across the Steinfeld and along EuroVelo 9 to the Krumbacherhof—from the Buckl to the mountain—from the Schneeberg to the Buckl.
