Located on the southeastern slope of the Wechsel at an elevation of approximately 1,000 meters, Mönichkirchen am Wechsel is a traditional vacation and day-trip destination for families, as well as a certified hiking village. The scenic drive there along the Wechsel Federal Highway is truly exceptional. The drive along the formerly four-lane road winds its way up to Mönichkirchen and over the mountain pass to the border with Styria.

Mönichkirchen am Wechsel boasts an extensive hiking infrastructure and a vast network of hiking trails. The Hochwechsel, with its highest point at 1,735 meters, is a paradise for mountaineers. The idyllic landscape, characterized by “Schwaigen”—the expansive alpine pastures with their rustic huts—creates a distinctive scenery. The route over the Niederwechsel leads to an impressive rock formation known as the “Steinerne Stiege.” The Erlebnisalm Mönichkirchen is a highlight for the whole family and captivates visitors with special excursion destinations, such as the water park with its “Salaërium,” the scooter and mountain cart track, the suspension bridge trail, and much more. Tip: The Hamari Climbing Park offers an extraordinary adventure for young and old alike.
