The Gahns is a foothill of the Schneeberg, the highest mountain in Lower Austria. The Pottschacher hut is located here at an altitude of 914 meters. From Prigglitz, it takes around an hour to reach the hut via forest paths, and those who hike via Gasteil can admire the outdoor art exhibition at Gut Gasteil along the way. At the top of the hut, hungry hikers can look forward to seasonal specialties such as mushroom dishes or fresh game and vegetarian dishes, as well as delicious fruit juices from an organic farmer in Prigglitz.
If you arrive by train, you can start your hike from Pottschach station via Holzweg via Buchbach, Tannschach and Gasteil or from Gloggnitz station via Stuppach, Saloder and Gasteil as well as via Rehgraben. The walking time here is 2-3 hours.
Mountain bikers also appreciate the Pottschacher Hut and can reach it via the Kapellenrunde and the Silbersberg route.

Preparation
When choosing a route, make sure it matches your experience and fitness level. Check the weather forecast in advance. The weather in the mountains can change surprisingly quickly. Therefore, always set out with the appropriate gear (e.g., rain gear).
Check whether the huts and snack bars you plan to visit along the way are open. Let someone know your chosen route and your planned return time before you set out. Stay on marked trails and avoid taking shortcuts.
Due to dry conditions, meadows and forests are highly flammable. Handle fire with care and report any potential fire immediately to the fire department. (122) Do not litter; dispose of trash properly.

We start at the municipal office in Prigglitz and head north along Prigglitz Street. We follow this road for just under one kilometer until we reach a curve, where we turn right onto a trail and keep to the right. We’ll come back to a road, which we’ll follow to the left. After about 500 meters, a trail branches off to the left toward the Pottschacher Hütte.
Parking is available at the elementary school near the municipal office.
From Vienna, take the A2 Südautobahn to the S6 Semmering Expressway and take the Gloggnitz exit. Head toward Prigglitz and drive through Stuppachgraben to Prigglitz.
From Graz, take the S6 Semmering Expressway and exit at Gloggnitz. Head toward Prigglitz and drive through Stuppachgraben to Prigglitz.
Take the Südbahn to Gloggnitz Station. Between the train station and the "Prigglitz Ort" stop, take Regional Bus 344 or the RUFbus Semmering-Rax (book individually).
