One-hour hike from Maiersdorf via the Straßenbahnerweg up the Hohe Wand to Gasthof Luf.
Maiersdorf is a district of the municipality of Hohe Wand, situated at the foot of the mountain and is a perfect starting point for hikes up the Hohe Wand. The small village offers nice vacation apartments and private guesthouses for overnight stays. The hike to the Hohe Wand first leads through the village center up to the fortified church of Maiersdorf. It then follows the"Straßenbahnerweg" up to the Hohe Wand. In around an hour, the trail leads hikers directly to the Luf family's mountain inn at an altitude of 940 meters. Here, guests can expect home-style cooking with homemade dishes, from soups to pastries. A special recommendation is the crispy fried chicken. After a break on the sun terrace, the Hohe Wand Nature Park invites you to take numerous other hikes and walks on the mountain, for example on the Wildenauer circular hike or the Nature Park circular hike for the whole family. The breathtaking "Skywalk" viewing platform is also just a 30-45 minute walk from Gasthof Luf. Here you can gaze into the distance and look down to the starting point of the hike in Maiersdorf!
We want your hikes in the Vienna Alps to be an enjoyable and safe experience in every way. Therefore, please note the following:
Preparation
When choosing a route, make sure it matches your experience and fitness level. Check the weather forecast in advance. The weather in the mountains can change surprisingly quickly. Therefore, always set out with the appropriate gear (e.g., rain gear).
Check to see if the huts and snack bars you plan to visit along the way are open. Let someone know your route and your planned return time before you set out.
You can find more safety tips for your hike here.
Always bring appropriate maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes suitable for the hike, and bring sunscreen, rain gear, water, and a light snack. Bring your cell phone and save the mountain rescue emergency number: 140
