The Eichbüchler Rundwanderweg is a leisurely circular hiking trail. It leads from Katzelsdorf along the Leitha and past the most beautiful spots in Eichbüchl, such as the castle.
The Eichbüchl circular trail is located on the Katzelsdorf-Bad Erlach section of the Wiener Alpenbogen - Arc of the Viennese Alps (trail). On this beautiful, 8 km long circular hiking trail, we explore Eichbüchl without any difficulties or steep inclines. The district of Katzelsdorf is nestled between the Leitha river and the Rosaliengebirge mountains and has a lot to offer. The highlight of the tour is Eichbüchl Castle, which dates back to the 14th century. At the Eichbüchl viewing point, you can admire this building from a different perspective with the Vienna Alps Viewer. Food and drink are also well catered for, as you pass numerous wine taverns and restaurants along the way. A visit to the Schlossrestaurant Katzelsdorf, one of the wine taverns or the award-winning Restaurant Görg is well worthwhile.
Your hikes in the Vienna Alps should be a completely enjoyable and safe experience. Please therefore observe the following:
Preparation
Ensure that the choice of route matches your mountain experience and fitness. Check the weather forecast beforehand. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly and rapidly. Always set out appropriately equipped (e.g., rain protection). Check whether the huts and snack stops you want to visit are open. Inform someone about the choice of route and your planned return before you start.
You can find more safety tips for your hike here.
Always take suitable maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes adapted to the route, take sun and rain protection as well as water and a small snack. Take your mobile phone with you and save the mountain rescue emergency number: 140
This route description refers to the start through Augasse. Since it is a circular hiking route, a start in the opposite direction is also possible.
From the starting point at the castle, turn right onto Mühlgasse to cross the river. At the next but one intersection, turn right into Augasse. Augasse leads to a path along the river and eventually onto a paved road (Burkhardtweg). Follow the road to the left continuing on Leithafurth and Furthweg, crossing the Leitha, until reaching Eichbüchl. The path continues on a paved road to Nepomuk Chapel, where you turn right (Am Weinberg). At the next intersection, go straight onto Gutenbacherweg. After a while, make a sharp left at the intersection; the path leads down into the village, where you turn left onto Eichbüchlstraße.
Passing the restaurant Görg, immediately turn right again onto Dr. Karl Renner Weg, which leads to a gravel road. Follow this path, which first makes a right and then a left turn. The path ends on an asphalted section (Im Prest), leading to Eichbüchlstraße. Here turn right, follow the road until you reach the Heurige Döller. Then continue left along a small stream. Keep right here to reach Kellerstraße. After a left turn, cross the Leitha again, and Mühlgasse leads back to the castle.
Free parking available directly at Katzelsdorf Castle.
Take the A2 from the direction of Vienna or Graz to the Autobahnkreuz Knoten Wr. Neustadt, then follow the signs on the S4 towards Hungary/Eisenstadt/Mattersburg/Wr. Neustadt-Süd. Take the S4 to the Katzelsdorf exit. Turn right and drive along the country road to Katzelsdorf, then follow the signs to the castle.
