The Breitenstein refreshment circuit runs along the railroad hiking trail and the Kreuzberg. At the start, there is a short ascent at the Weinzettel-Höhe, which is rewarded with a fascinating view of the Adlitzgräben. A detour to the viewing platforms opens up an impressive view down into the Adlitzgraben. At the top of the Kreuzberg, you have already earned your first rest. Gasthof Polleres invites you to take a break. Continue along the Villenstraße or Althammerhofstraße to the Althammerhof, where specialties from the sheep and a wonderful view invite you to take a break. The trail leads along Althammerhofstraße and Klammer Straße to the parish church in Klamm. The imposing Klamm ruins are located above the church. The memorial stone for the workers who died during the railroad construction can be found about 50 m down the Klammer Straße to the left. Now follow the railroad hiking trail again along the railroad line to the Wagner Viaduct and Gamperl Viaduct until you return to Breitenstein.
Your hikes in the Vienna Alps should be a thoroughly beautiful and safe experience.
Please therefore note the following:
Make sure when choosing the route that it matches your mountain experience and physical condition. Check the weather forecast in advance. Weather in the mountains can change surprisingly quickly. Therefore always start out appropriately equipped (suitable footwear, rain protection). Check if huts and snack stations you want to visit are open. Inform someone about your route choice and planned return time before you leave. Stay on marked paths and avoid shortcuts. Due to dryness, meadows and forests are easily flammable. Handle fire with respect and report any possible fire to the fire brigade immediately. (122) Do not litter in nature and dispose of waste properly.
Further safety tips for your hike can be found here.
Always take suitable maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes appropriate for the route, bring sun and rain protection as well as water and a snack. Take your mobile phone and save the mountain rescue emergency number: 140
At Breitenstein station we walk downhill through the underpass. Following the signs of the railway hiking trail, the path leads us to the Weinzettel field up to the Weinzettelwand. On the railway hiking trail, we go uphill to the left at the crossroads via Karl Schubert Street. Following the street, we reach the Polleres inn. Now we go right along Althammerhof Street to Althammerhof. After that, the hollow way leads us to the Klamm ruin and the parish church. Opposite begins the musician path, which leads to the turnoff to the Mostheuriger Rumpler (at the Wagner viaduct). On the way back, we return to the path below the Semmering railway and walk to Pfeffer Street. Following this, the path joins the railway hiking trail again. We follow this back to Breitenstein station.
