From the Hochwechsel to the climatic health resort of Mönichkirchen
At the Hochwechsel you can see practically the entire route of the main alpannonia trail: from the first stages in the Styrian mountains and from the Sonnwendstein to the Hungarian plain. With a view ahead towards Bernstein and the Günser Gebirge, the route then leads from Wetterkoglerhaus via Niederwechsel and Steinerne Stiege to Mönichkirchner Schwaig. From here to the center of Mönichkirchen, you hike along the "Water of Life" theme trail, which also includes the water park, which is well worth seeing.
Tip: take the scooter from the Schwaig to Mönichkirchen chair lift valley station.
In bad weather, the ridge trail from Hochwechsel to Niederwechsel is very exposed. As an alternative, you can take the lower trail via the Vorauer Schwaig.

When choosing a route, make sure it matches your mountaineering experience and physical condition. Check the weather forecast in advance. The weather in the mountains can change surprisingly quickly. Therefore, always set out with the appropriate gear (e.g., rain gear).
Check whether the huts and snack bars you plan to visit along the way are open. Let someone know your route and your planned return time before you set out.

Always bring appropriate maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes suitable for the hike, and bring sunscreen, rain gear, water, and a light snack. Bring your cell phone and save the mountain rescue emergency number: 140
At the end of the toll road near the hut (accessible only from Mönichwald or Waldbach!)
Access via Mönichwald or Waldbach, then follow the signs toward Hochwechsel.
