Description

With the Höllentalbahn from Payerbach to Hirschwang

From the end of June to the end of October, you can embark on a special journey every Sunday and public holiday. That's when the Höllentalbahn starts from Payerbach-Reichenau station along its 5 km route to Hirschwang - and back.

What you can expect on a ride on the Höllentalbahn:

  • Ride in historic carriages: the four-axle passenger railcar pulls back and forth between Reichenau and Hirschwang up to 8 times a day. Along the route you have a magnificent view of the Rax.
  • Adventure trips: 3 times a day, you can use the break at each terminus to take part in a guided tour of the electric forming plant in Payerbach or the vehicle depot in Hirschwang - guided tours are included in the train ticket. More about the timetable and guided tour times
  • Train ride and hike: If you like hiking, it's best to take the first train to Hirschwang. From there, you can walk to the Rax cable car in just a few minutes or hike along the 1st Vienna Water Pipeline Trail. Then take the last cable car back to Payerbach-Reichenau.

2026 is the year of anniversaries in the Semmering-Rax region: 100 years of the Höllentalbahn and numerous other anniversarieswill be celebrated.
