From the Wexl Arena parking lot, head downhill towards Unternberg. After the Ofnerhof, turn left at the chapel and follow the signposted path towards Passkapelle. From here, turn right towards Hottmansgraben (Aspang). This path soon divides, keep right again in the direction of the former Gasthaus Reithofer, where the Ungersböck family now runs the mountain cheese dairy. From Friday to Sunday there is farm-gate sales and a refreshment stop. From here you walk back along the same path for about 100 meters, but then do not turn right again, but follow the road to the forest, where a sign points the way to Unternberg, past the castle. The path leads back to the starting point.
The route partly runs through woods and on unpaved paths. In snowy conditions, the paths are not cleared and may have icy or slippery spots. Use of the paths is at your own risk. It is recommended to pay attention to early dusk and plan the routes carefully.
Sturdy footwear, poles (with discs in snow), waterproof outdoor clothing, hat, gloves, scarf or multifunctional cloth, backpack, headlamp (days are shorter in winter), sunglasses, sun and/or cold protection, drinking bottle or thermos flask are indispensable in winter.
Parking available at the Wexl Arena
From Vienna drive via the A2 South Motorway, take the Edlitz exit. Head toward Aspang. Continue on Wechsel Straße/B54 to Aspang. At the roundabout take the third exit (Gutenberggasse). Turn right onto Bahnstraße. Slight right onto Mühlgasse, which curves slightly right and becomes Sonneck. Continue on L137 to Unternberg.
From Graz drive via the A2 South Motorway, take the Aspang exit. Head toward Aspang/Zöbern. Turn left onto L137 and follow it to Aspang. Turn right onto Hauptplatz, then immediately left onto Gottsbergergasse. Turn left onto Mühlgasse, which curves slightly right and becomes Sonneck. Continue on L137 to Unternberg.
From Wr. Neustadt main station, take the regional train (toward Aspang-Markt) to the final stop. Then take regional bus 369 to the Unternberg stop.

From Friday to Sunday, a stop at the mountain cheese dairy is highly recommended. For a snack on site with many delicious specialties or to take home from the farm shop. Another option for a stop is the Wexl Lounge. Please check the current opening hours before your hike.
For a longer stay in Unternberg, a farm holiday with the Gruber family at the Ofnerhof or at the Dissauer farm with the Rosinger family is recommended.
