Description

Hardly any other landscape in Austria boasts as many beautiful vantage points as the Vienna Alps region. What makes these views even more special is when you look at them from a different angle - from the driver's seat of a vintage car, for example! The thermal spa communities in Lower Austria can offer plenty of inspiration in this area for those interested, making a trip into nature a very special experience.

Route description From Katzelsdorf, you drive into the neighboring Burgenland via Neudörfl on L 4085 passing the spa town Bad Sauerbrunn and continue via Wiesen to Forchtenstein Castle. Crossing the state border back to Lower Austria, the journey continues through the gently rising hilly landscape via Hochwolkersdorf, Wiesmath, and further on L 149 to Hollenthon and Kirchschlag. Then you drive a short stretch on B 55 before reaching L 146 towards Hochneukirchen and arrive at the Hutwischwarte lookout. On clear days, the panoramic view extends over Lake Neusiedl, Schneeberg, Wechsel, and as far as the Steiner Alps in Slovenia. Afterwards, the drive continues on L 146 into Styria and B 63 to Pinggau and Schaueregg. Via the Wechsel federal road B 54, you reach the spa town Mönichkirchen and return over the Wechsel to Seebenstein, Pitten, Lanzenkirchen back to the starting point Katzelsdorf.

Getting there Take the South Motorway A2 to the Wr.Neustadt junction -> S4 towards Eisenstadt -> exit Katzelsdorf · Coming from Burgenland on the S4 -> exit Neudörfl
Public transport Katzelsdorf is easily accessible by train and bus. Take the Southern Railway to Wr.Neustadt, from here connecting trains to Katzelsdorf or by bus. More information at www.vor.at and www.oebb.at.
Editor’s tip Particularly worth seeing along the route are attractions such as the Rosarium Bad Sauerbrunn, Forchtenstein Castle, or the Hutwischwarte lookout in Hochneukirchen. Also worth a visit is the Mönichkirchen water park.
