Tut Gut-Wanderweg Markt Piesting-Dreistetten Route 1

We want your hikes in the Vienna Alps to be an enjoyable and safe experience in every way. Therefore, please note the following:

Preparation

When choosing a route, make sure it matches your experience and fitness level. Check the weather forecast in advance. The weather in the mountains can change surprisingly quickly. Therefore, always set out with the appropriate gear (e.g., rain gear).

Check to see if the huts and snack bars you plan to visit along the way are open. Let someone know your route and your planned return time before you set out.

Always bring appropriate maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes suitable for the hike, and bring sun and rain protection, as well as water and a light snack. Bring your cell phone and save the mountain rescue emergency number: 140

We start at the Schmankerl-Wirt next to the Waldbad in Markt Piesting and follow the red trail markers uphill through the “Frangelnwald” to the edge of Markt Piesting. Here we’ll find the lookout point at the “Red Cross” and turn left onto the forest trail. This trail, marked with red signs, leads us back to the starting point.

Free parking is available in the large parking lot in front of the Waldbad Markt Piesting.

Coming from Vienna, take the Wöllersdorf exit off the A2, continue toward Gutenstein on the B21, and at the first opportunity in Markt Piesting, turn right off the B21 onto Wöllersdorfer Straße. After about 300 meters, turn left up the hill toward Waldbad/Schmankerl-Wirt onto Bocksbachgasse; after about 100 meters, you’ll see the entrance to the Waldbad.

From the main train station in Wiener Neustadt, take the regional train toward Gutenstein and get off at the Piesting-Harzwerk stop. From there, it’s about a 20-minute walk to the Schmankerl-Wirt restaurant near the Waldbad. There are also buses to Markt Piesting.
