When choosing a route, make sure it matches your experience and fitness level . Check the weather forecast in advance.

Wear appropriate clothing and good running shoes. Be sure to bring rain gear and sunscreen. Bring plenty to drink.

Start at the sign on Schlossplatz, pass the Nöbauer pastry shop, cross the Johannesbrücke, go through Erlangerpark, cross Hauptstraße at the bus stop, and continue onto Hans-Wallner-Straße, following it to the entrance of Schloss Rothschild. Turn left over the Grünstingbach stream, then turn left again and follow Hinterleitenstraße uphill to the Flackl farmhouse. Pass the garage on the left, then turn right above the farm building, cross the Hinterleitenbach stream, and head toward the Flackl-Wirt inn. Turn left immediately below the inn and continue straight ahead until you reach a fork in the road. Here, keep to the right, continue downhill through the ditch and over the wooden bridge. Take the forest path uphill, then follow the road to the right until you reach Orthofstraße. Turn right, pass the house, and head downhill to the right across the meadow (detour to the Kletschka lookout point). After passing the houses, turn right onto the meadow and forest path until you reach Kletschkagasse. Turn right and follow the wall of Schloss Rothschild to the “Schönerer Kreuz,” cross the street, turn onto Hans Wallner-Straße, and return to the starting point.

Parking spaces are available in the area around Schlossplatz.

From Vienna, take the A2 Südautobahn to the S6 Semmering Expressway and take the Gloggnitz exit. Continue on the B27 to Reichenau and turn right at Erlangerplatz.

From Graz, take the S6 Semmering Expressway and exit at Gloggnitz. Continue on the B27 to Reichenau and turn right at Erlangerplatz.

Take the Südbahn to the Payerbach-Reichenau station . Buses run at regular intervals between the station and Erlangerplatz. (About a 5-minute walk to the castle.) Alternatively, book a private ride with the RUFbus Semmering-Rax.
