"On the trail of the queen of the forest", the adventure trail in St. Corona leads past 15 playful and educational stations. Here, children learn all about the life and tasks of this tiny but important forest dweller. The ant is rightly considered the queen of the forest, as it carries many times its body weight over long distances, builds towers and tunnels and keeps the meadow and forest clean. The adventure trail stretches over 2.5 kilometers on the Kampstein and is perfect for families with children. There is a "relaxation area" with sun loungers and benches at the highest point of the hike near the reservoir pond.
The hike starts and finishes at Gasthof Orthof.
Your hikes in the Vienna Alps should be a completely beautiful and safe experience. Please therefore observe the following:
Preparation
Make sure when choosing your route that it matches your experience and fitness level. Check the weather forecast in advance. Weather in the mountains can change surprisingly quickly. Therefore always set out accordingly equipped.
Check if the huts and snack stations you want to visit on the way are open. Inform someone about your choice of route and your planned return before you start.
Always take suitable maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes adapted to the route, take sun and rain protection as well as water and a small snack. Take your mobile phone with you and save the emergency number of the mountain rescue: 140
At the starting point at Gasthof Orthof we find a signpost. At first, we walk uphill along the road where a panel of the adventure trail welcomes us on the right at the forest edge. Here begins the circular route, which can be walked from different directions. We first keep left and walk through the forest. After the station "Ant Kingdom" we make a left turn and soon reach the next station. Then it goes right about 100 meters uphill across the street. On the right at the forest edge is the next station. Now we go back into the forest, keep right, and thus reach the next station. After the following station "Work" we make a left turn and continue hiking past the next station, cross the forest path, and come to the station "Cleanliness." Here we turn right again to get onto the path. We follow this a short distance to the left and then turn left again into the forest. Passing a station, we then reach a newly created path. First keeping left, then right, we reach the path to the former lift station at the storage pond. The adventure trail now leads into the relaxation area around the storage pond. Now we hike straight ahead past four stations on the path back down to Orthof.
Parking spaces are available at the Wexl Arena and at GH Orthof.
From Vienna: Take the South Motorway A2, exit 69 Edlitz/Aspang, continue on B54 via Kirchberg am Wechsel, St. Corona am Wechsel, and Unternberg to GH Orthof.
From Graz: Take the South Motorway A2, exit 81 Aspang Markt, continue on B54 via Aspang Markt and Unternberg to GH Orthof.
The new VOR timetable offers a comprehensive service, also on weekdays.
By train via Wiener Neustadt to Aspang and from there by bus towards Kirchberg am Wechsel to Wexl Arena St. Corona. Walking path to GH Orthof, the starting point of the Ant Trail. (weekdays up to the St. Corona/Wechsel Unternberg stop)

Snowshoes are available for rent at the Wexl Arena.
From there, it goes via the Kugelbahnweg to the starting point, Gasthof Orthof.
