"alpannonia" - Rundweg Liebing

Hiking gear; - sturdy shoes, clothing appropriate for the weather

We start this walk at the parking lot (soccer field) in Rattersdorf and cross the state highway to reach Liebing on the other side. Following the main street through Liebing, we stay on this local road until, after a left-hand curve, we reach the L55 state road again. We follow it only briefly; at the very first side street, we turn right and walk up the forest path between the last houses. Soon we can see the first chestnut trees. Walking steadily uphill, we reach a clearing at the top. At a gravel path crossing our route, we turn left, only to turn left again a few meters further on to head toward the chestnut grove. We can already spot the first ancient chestnut trees and head straight toward them. At the start of the chestnut grove, an “Alpannonia” information sign provides an overview, and a rest area invites us to linger.

After admiring the impressive, ancient trees, we hike back to the gravel road and, turning left, head back toward the forest. We descend through the forest, reach the state road, cross it, and cross the Güns River via a bridge. We follow the river back to our starting point in Rattersdorf.
