We set off from the main square in Bad Tatzmannsdorf, with the Gradwohl Bakery on our right, and head down Glockenstraße toward Waldteich. After passing the pond, the trail climbs slightly through the forest. At a crossroads, we continue straight ahead and follow a path down into a ditch. We cross the small stream and walk back up to a 380 kV high-voltage power line tower at the edge of the forest. Walking between fields and meadows, we now follow a paved path to a crossroads with a wayside shrine. From here, you can already see the first houses of Schlaining. At this crossroads, if you turn right, you’ll find a rest area with benches and a small chapel at the first house. We follow the alley to the main street, where we find a small grocery store on the left and cross the street at the crosswalk. After passing a bus stop, we turn right into a small alley and, a few meters further on, find ourselves right in the town center. With the Protestant church to our left, we walk down the historic “Lange Gasse” to Rochusplatz, directly in front of the castle. Here, at the first castle gate, we’ll find an Alpannonia information board.
This is also where the path down to the interesting moat begins, as well as the continuation of the Alpannonia trail toward Goberling and Hirschenstein.
