Description

We start at the Austrian-Hungarian border, just outside Rechnitz, and reach the village via the vineyard. From here, the trail leads through the Nussgraben valley to Hirschenstein, where we meet the main alpannonia trail.

Route description Coming from Hungary, we turn right after a few meters onto the border path and follow the road up to the Rechnitz wine region. Passing a naturally protected pine tree, we walk along the paved path to the cross-path, where we turn left and circle a row of houses (twice right) to a forest path. Here begins the Burgenland hunting educational trail, which we follow for a while. At the end, we cross a road and climb a path briefly. Always following the highest street in Rechnitz, we also follow a section of the wine educational trail to the waterworks station building, where we turn right.Some old wine cellars accompany us for the next few meters and we also get a first view of the Rechnitz bathing lake. Via a narrow path (Tieferweg) we descend into the valley, follow Faludigasse, and circle the bathing water counterclockwise. Via Hochstraße, we can reach the center of Rechnitz. In Kirchengasse (Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria) is the interesting bootmaker museum. But we turn right into Pointgasse (B54) to immediately follow the next side street left into Nussgrabengasse to the edge of town. We now walk along the Nussgraben for several kilometers until we reach the B54 to Lockenhaus and follow it, taking two hairpin turns, to the junction to the former lung sanatorium. Now it is not far; a short path through the forest brings us to the summit of Hirschenstein, where we join the alpannonia main trail.
