Hiking tour Starting from Friedberg center
A steady climb up the Niederwechsel with some wonderful viewpoints.
The trail starts in the center of Friedberg and leads uphill past the retirement home to the Bärengraben. After exiting the Bärengraben, the route continues along meadow paths to Schwaighof, where you can enjoy the first beautiful views. The route continues mostly along forest paths to the hamlet of Dreihäuser, the Hilmtor and then somewhat steeper uphill to the Hochkogel. Here you pass pilgrims' crosses, which invite you to take a contemplative break. After the Hochkogel, the trail meets the regional route to St. Lorenzen at the Thalberger Schwaig. A little further uphill, you will find the turn-off to the Glatzl-Trahütte, which is about 15 minutes' walk off the trail. As you continue through the forest, you also walk a short distance along a former Roman path. The wagon tracks are still clearly visible in the rock. As soon as the path leaves the forest, you come to the Vorauer Schwaig (not always farmed). From here, after a short climb across mountain meadows, you reach the Niederwechsel, where you meet the main alpannonia trail. On the often windy Niederwechsel you can enjoy a panoramic view over the surrounding mountains and far into the plain.
