The Groiss family’s wine tavern in Matzendorf is “a wine tavern that’s truly still a wine tavern”—all products are made in-house, and the pigs and sheep are raised on the property and fed with feed from the family’s own farm. The grapes are grown right here in Matzendorf and tended by the whole family until they are processed in the fall in their own wine cellar into house wines and varietal wines.
The restaurant offers about 80 seats indoors and, in the summer, space for around 100 guests in the courtyard. For children, there is a play table and a high chair; dogs are welcome (water bowls provided). In addition to the wine tavern, the family also runs a small pony breeding operation (Vineyard ponies), raises Anglo-Nubian goats, operates a dog boarding facility, sells pork and lamb, offers sheep’s wool as fertilizer, and provides horse-drawn carriage rides.
