Schnidahahn Food Festival

From July to October on a culinary tour through the Bucklige Welt-Wechselland region

In the old days, the "Schnida", the harvest workers, looked forward to their traditional Schnidahahn all summer long. Today, it is the namesake of a series of culinary events and a cause for anticipation, just as it was back then.

Until a hundred years ago, the "Schnidahahn" was the reward for migrant workers who helped with the harvest – the so-called "Schnitter" or "Schnida". After the field had been harvested, there was a big celebration with hearty chicken delicacies.

Since 2003, restaurants, direct marketing businesses, butchers, bakeries and pastry shops, breweries and wine taverns have been organising the "Schnidahahn" every year from July to October: a series of culinary events in idyllic corners of the Bucklige Welt and Wechselland regions.

More than just chicken

The offerings range from tasty, particularly aromatic menus and regional specialities to guided tours and the Schnidahahn cider bar. Numerous establishments in the Bucklige Welt-Wechselland region are opening their doors and inviting visitors to discover the land of 1,000 hills and its cuisine at various events.
