Cycling

Up and down for fun!

Over hills and through valleys

The Bucklige Welt is not a land of straight paths. Here, the route constantly alternates between going under and over – with sweeping views across fields, woods and small villages. Anyone travelling by bike feels the winding ups and downs not only in their legs, but also as the rhythm of a landscape that feels genuine and unspoilt.

Our hosts’ favourite routes

Many inns, accommodation providers and excursion destinations in the Bucklige Welt region are certified as ‘Cycling Partners Lower Austria’. They know all the best tips, hire out bikes and equipment, and offer a range of other amenities for cyclists.

Road cyclists and gravel cyclists feel particularly at home here. Two routes – the Scenic Route and the Borderland Route – pass right by our premises. Combined, they offer around 800 metres of elevation gain, little traffic and views stretching as far as the Hochwechsel and Schneeberg.

I particularly recommend the Zöbernbach Cycle Route to my guests. It runs right through the Bucklige Welt, is shaded and can be extended all the way to Lake Neusiedl. This makes it ideal for both leisure cyclists and keen cyclists.

We recommend the Panorama Route – 23 kilometres long, ideal for leisure cyclists and easily covered in half a day. It’s particularly enjoyable on our e-bikes. The route takes you past viewpoints that showcase what makes the Bucklige Welt so special – all the way to the Wechsel.

Deliberately stray a little from the path

In the Bucklige Welt region, many visitor farms invite you to take a look behind the scenes. You can experience the craftsmanship and knowledge of food production passed down through generations. High-quality goat’s cheese, award-winning spirits, aromatic jam made from regional lemons… If you’re out and about on your bike, you’ll constantly discover new flavours and meet new people. Tip: Make sure you leave a bit of space in your rucksack for tastings and souvenirs!

Pedal rest

If you take a break, you’ll get more out of your cycle ride. Perhaps at one of the impressive fortified churches that once served as places of refuge? Or at the ruins of Kirchschlag Castle, whose ‘women’s cage’ is shrouded in a grim legend. The Bucklige Welt is far too lovely to simply ‘rush through’.

For a break, why not enjoy a glass of apple juice or apple cider – a typical speciality that tastes different in every wine tavern thanks to the variety of apple varieties. Anyone looking to stop for a bite to eat will find authentic cuisine with clearly traceable origins in the inns of the ‘Sooo gut schmeckt Bucklige Welt-Wechselland’ initiative.
