Preparation
When choosing a route, make sure it suits your experience and condition. Check the weather forecast in advance. The weather can change surprisingly quickly in the mountains. Therefore, always set off equipped accordingly (e.g. rain protection).
Check whether the inns and snack stations you want to visit on the way are open. Inform someone about your choice of route and your planned return before you set off.
Always take suitable maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes suitable for the tour, take sun and rain protection as well as water and a snack with you. Take your mobile phone with you and save the emergency number of the rescue service: 144
Start of the route in Bad Schönau. Ride out of the village towards the main road (Bundesstraße), and turn right onto the Zöbernbachradweg before the B55. There, the route always follows the cycle path, right next to the Zöbernbach stream. Past the construction company “Handler” to Kirchschlag. Shortly before Billa, turn left onto the B55, then follow this until you reach the centre of the village and the Hotel Post – Hönig family. There, you turn left into Kirchengasse, past the municipal office and straight on to the pharmacy. Turn left there, past the fortified church and turn right after the church to the “Passionsspielhaus”. Turn left over the bridge to the “Passionsspielhaus” and continue along the road. Now the trail continues straight ahead; in the section known as “Berggasse” to Aigen, you can enjoy great views of the Kirchschlag castle ruins. You will now come to the villages of Aigen, Strass and Tiefenbach – always following the signposted route – and finally end up back at the B55. Cross the road and now follow the “Zöbernbachradweg” to the right, then you will come back to the centre of Bad Schönau.
