Description

The area is a western foothill of the Hohe Wand. The municipality of Grünbach am Schneeberg lies at the foot of the area and is therefore an ideal starting point for hikes up the mountain. You can also visit the mining museum here. The Wandstraße takes you to a parking lot from where various hiking trails lead off. From here, for example, you can also take a forest path to Pension Seiser Toni. Our hike takes us up the forest road to our first stop at the Scheimhitt'n. At the Rastkreuzsattel saddle at an altitude of 876 meters, the hut not only invites you to rest but also to celebrate and spend the night. Hungry hikers can fortify themselves with game specialties from the hut's own enclosure. From here, you can hike up the Hohe Wand in an easterly direction. The trail continues in the opposite direction. Either comfortably along the forest road or, as shown on the map, along a rocky path, you will finally reach the hut at 1023 meters. A three-metre bear statue points to the nearby bear cave. On weekends from Easter to December, hard-working hikers can enjoy the 360-degree panoramic view over the Schneeberg and the southern Vienna Basin as far as the Pannonian Plain.

The area can also be hiked from the north from Miesenbach or from the Hohe Wand via a variant of the Northern Alpine Trail.
