The circular trail with the Bakabu listening experience stations leads from Hochneukirchen to the Hutwischwarte and back again.
Along the way, there are audio adventure stations for children and the young at heart.A story for children is told at 9 stations (book & audio), in which Bakabu and his best friend Charlie Gru, the clay pigeon, set off in search of the highest point in the Bucklige Welt - the place where the wind whistles more beautifully than anywhere else.On their way, they encounter a different animal at each stop, which brings them a little closer to their goal. They learn the story of the bearded Gretel ("boardate Gretl") and unravel the mystery of the legendary "white horse without a skull".
In between, recreational spots in the forest invite you to air out and relax.
Your hikes in the Vienna Alps should be an all-around beautiful and safe experience. Please therefore note the following:
Preparation
Make sure when choosing the route that it matches your mountain experience and fitness. Check the weather forecast in advance. The weather in the mountains can change surprisingly quickly. Always start properly equipped (e.g., rain protection).
Check whether the huts and snack stations you want to visit along the way are open. Inform someone about your choice of route and your planned return before you leave.
More safety tips for your hike can be found here.
Attention, this hiking trail goes through the forest, is not cleared in case of snow and can have slippery spots. Use is at your own risk. Watch out for early dusk and plan your route especially carefully. Also drink enough water in winter.
Always take suitable maps with you. Put on sturdy shoes adapted to the route, take sun and rain protection as well as water and a snack. Take your mobile phone with you and save the mountain rescue emergency number: 140
Don't forget headgear and gloves, at any rate avoid hypothermia!
The route starts at the parking lot with a large information board in Hochneukirchen. At the Info & Genuss station in the village, you can stock up on regional specialties to be prepared for a break on the way. The path is marked with birdhouses, which lead along the entire route to the lookout and back again.
The round begins then over the fountain square, then left over the panorama road and the short path. From there, keep right (always following the birdhouses) until you reach the Hutwischwarte. From there, you can reach the platform via steps, where, in good weather, you have a 360° view into 5 different states. The newly installed rest benches are ideal for a short break. Opposite the lookout, the round path continues and leads in a nice arc back to the starting point in Hochneukirchen. There, Konditorei Beiglböck awaits hungry stomachs.
There are enough parking spaces in the center of town at the start of the circular route.
From Vienna and Graz, it is about 100 kilometers each to Hochneukirchen. Coming from Vienna, take the Krumbach exit, drive through the town of Krumbach, then turn right towards Hochneukirchen. Coming from Graz, take the Pinggau exit, via Sparberegg to Gschaidt and then on to Hochneukirchen.
Take the train to Edlitz-Grimmenstein or Aspang station, then continue by bus.
