The circular trail with the Bakabu listening experience stations leads from Hochneukirchen to the Hutwischwarte and back again.
Along the way, there are audio adventure stations for children and the young at heart.A story for children is told at 9 stations (book & audio), in which Bakabu and his best friend Charlie Gru, the clay pigeon, set off in search of the highest point in the Bucklige Welt - the place where the wind whistles more beautifully than anywhere else.On their way, they encounter a different animal at each stop, which brings them a little closer to their goal. They learn the story of the bearded Gretel ("boardate Gretl") and unravel the mystery of the legendary "white horse without a skull".
In between, recreational areas in the forest invite you to air out and relax.
Your hikes in the Vienna Alps should be a completely beautiful and safe experience. Please therefore note the following:
Preparation
Make sure when choosing the route that it matches your experience and fitness. Check the weather forecast beforehand. The weather can change surprisingly quickly in the mountains. Therefore, always set out accordingly equipped (e.g., rain protection).
Check whether the huts and snack stations you want to visit on the way are open. Inform someone about your chosen route and planned return before you start.
More safety tips for your hike can be found here.
Always take suitable maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes adapted to the route, bring sun and rain protection as well as water and a small snack. Take your mobile phone with you and save the emergency numbers of the rescue services: Rescue 144 / Mountain Rescue 140
The route starts at the car park with a large information board in Hochneukirchen. At the info & gourmet station in the village, you can still buy regional specialties so that you are prepared for a rest while on the way. The path is marked with birdhouses, which lead along the entire route to the lookout and back again.
The round trip then begins via the fountain square, then left over the panorama street and the short path. From there, keep right (always following the birdhouses) until you reach the Hutwisch lookout. There, you can climb up the steps to the platform, from where, in good weather, you have a 360° view into 5 different states. The installed benches are ideal for a short break. Opposite the lookout, the circular route continues and leads back in a beautiful arc to the starting point in Hochneukirchen. There, the Beiglböck confectionery or the newly opened inn s'Hutwisch in 2023 await hungry stomachs.
At the start of the circular route, there are plenty of free parking spaces in the town center.
From Vienna and Graz, it is about 100 kilometers each to Hochneukirchen. Coming from Vienna, take the Krumbach exit, go through the town of Krumbach there and then right towards Hochneukirchen. Coming from Graz, take the Pinggau exit, via Sparberegg to Gschaidt and then on to Hochneukirchen.
By train to Edlitz-Grimmenstein or Aspang station, from there continue by bus to Hochneukirchen
