Organic Since 1993
Christmas trees have been grown on the Spenger family’s organic farm in Thomasberg for more than 30 years. This means the trees are grown without chemical or synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. It’s important to keep in mind that a two-meter-tall tree takes about 10 years to grow. Over the long term, therefore, it really pays off to avoid using these substances.
The farm is also a member of the Association of Lower Austrian Christmas Tree Producers.
A Special Breed of Sheep
Shropshire sheep are also used on the farm to maintain and fertilize the fields. This breed, which originates from England, leaves the shoots of coniferous and fruit trees alone, keeps the grass short, and fertilizes the farmland through good pasture management.
How to Bring Your Christmas Tree Home
Starting in October, trees can be selected and reserved. In early December, on-farm Christmas tree sales begin, featuring a craft market, mulled cider, and tea in the nearly 200-year-old granary. Visitors are also welcome to visit the sheep in the barn—a special highlight for families with children.
You’re also welcome to cut your own tree: hand saws are provided, and signs indicate which Christmas trees may be cut. A wonderful and unique Christmas experience, even with children.
