Plenty of variety in Kirchberg am Wechsel: Gasthof Pension St. Wolfgang

Fishing, felting, cycling: a guest at the 3-star family-run hotel

The Gasthof St. Wolfgang in Kirchberg is certified as a hiking hotel, as well as a Vienna Alps Cycling Host. So how about alternating between a day of cycling and a day of hiking – trout fishing and wood-turning included?

Wake up and fall asleep to the sound of the Feistritz stream: at the 3-star St. Wolfgang Inn in Kirchberg, the stress and hectic of everyday life are quickly forgotten. The tailor-made offers for e-bikers, mountain bikers and hikers also help. The accommodation, situated directly on the Feistritztal cycle path, has even more to offer: those who need a break from hiking or cycling can practise wood-turning, felting or trout fishing. Pastry lovers can let senior chef Marianne introduce them to the fine art of baking “Germstriezel” and “Strudel”. And farmer Maria passes on her knowledge about domestic and wild herbs.

Cycling fun – from the farm

From the guesthouse, families and pleasure bikers can explore the Vienna-Alpine section of the Feistritztal cycle path: the 18 kilometres between Aspang and Trattenbach are asphalted and have barely any inclines. If you want to extend your tour, you can change to EuroVelo 9 in Aspang. Fancy mountain biking? The “Wexl Trails” are only about ten minutes away by car.

An ode to grandma

An empty stomach isn’t a great cycling companion: that’s why you’ll find lovingly prepared home cooking at the Gasthof St. Wolfgang. A key part of Lower Austrian inn culture comes in the form of, for example, the “Großmutterschnitzel” of “grandmother’s schnitzel” according to a recipe by grandma Agnes, which is filled with farmer’s smoked meat, onion and cheese. The musical accompaniment to such tasty bites is provided by the chef herself: Every now and then she also tunes a song for her guests.
