Description

At 1800 meters above sea level, the impressive Hochschneeberg station on the Schneeberg opened in 2009. The architecturally impressive station was designed to be barrier-free, with ramps to facilitate boarding and alighting from the Salamander trains where necessary. The on-site sanitary facilities are also barrier-free.

Directly connected to the station is the Berghaus Hochschneeberg, which offers culinary delicacies to enhance the fantastic view. The mountain hotel, which was built in 1898, is also a popular starting point or refreshment stop for many a circular hike to the numerous surrounding mountain huts.

Route information

  • Hochschneeberg station is the highest station in Austria and can be reached by Schneebergbahn trains during operating hours. The station is the terminus of the continuation line of the Schneebergbahn and is one of three cogwheel railroads still in operation in Austria.

High up

A train ride on the Schneebergbahn line is a very special experience in itself, whether on the modern, comfortable Salamander trains or the rustic nostalgia trains.

Once you reach the top, you are offered plenty of variety in addition to the breathtaking views from the Schneeberg. In Austria's highest gallery, you can see the works of the Puchberg artist VOKA, while the Alpine Kinderbergwelt is just a 5-minute walk from the station and invites you to romp around and explore.

Tip: Enjoy the ride on the Schneebergbahn trains to Austria's highest station and take the family-friendly hike back to Puchberg am Schneeberg station along the cogwheel hiking trail.
