Brief description

2-day hike from Semmering via the Dürrgraben, Pfaffensattel to the Alois-Günther House and back to Spital am Semmering

Description

The Stuhleck route is a long-distance hike from the pass at Semmering over numerous peaks, with the Stuhleck as the highest point of the route at 1783 meters above sea level. Via the Dürrgraben, it goes to Alpkogel and follows the ridge, on the tracks of the mountain hunters to the Feistritz saddle and after crossing the alpine pastures to the Pfaffensattel. The ascent to the Stuhleck is rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view at the Alois-Günther House. The Günther House welcomes its guests with traditional hut specialties and is also the first refreshment opportunity on the hike. The descent goes via the Schwaiger hut (winter operation only), the Friedrich hut (weekend operation in summer) and past the ski lifts down to Spital am Semmering.

Route description Semmering - Stuhleck route

The starting point of our hike is the Semmering Pass. We start at the parking lots of the Zau[:ber:]g cable car. Passing the barrier, we walk through the Johannespromenade into the Dürrgraben along the green marking. At the creek crossing, we keep left and go over the forest road, following the trail signage, to the junction of the long-distance trail to Alpkogel. Here we orient ourselves according to the flame markings on the trees. The forest path now leads us past the Alpkogel hut, over the Poirhöhe, the Fanklbauerhöhe and the Fröschnitz saddle to the Feistritz saddle and Pfaffensattel. After crossing the country road, our ascent to Stuhleck begins. Going downhill, we follow the red marking past the Schwaiger hut, the Friedrich hut and Almboden to Spital am Semmering.

Safety information

Your hikes in the Vienna Alps should be a thoroughly enjoyable and safe experience.

Please therefore observe the following:

Make sure when choosing the route that it suits your mountain experience and fitness. Check the weather forecast in advance. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly and rapidly. Therefore, always start adequately equipped (appropriate footwear, rain protection). Check whether the huts and snack stations you want to visit on the way are open. Inform someone about your route choice and your planned return before you set off. Stay on marked paths and avoid shortcuts. Due to dryness, meadows and forests can catch fire easily. Treat fire with respect and report any possible fire to the fire department immediately (122). Do not litter and dispose of waste properly.
