Route description Semmering Johannespromenade

The starting point of our hike is the Semmering Passhöhe at the valley station of the Semmering Hirschenkogel cable car. We follow the Johannespromenade, starting at the western end of the parking lots, for about three kilometers, flat into the Dürrgraben. From the brook crossing, the forest road leads us further into the valley, steadily uphill. At the second junction, we turn left (note: no marking!) and follow this forest road, which continues slightly ascending out of the valley. At the intersection with Sonnwendsteinstrasse, we continue straight downhill past the Enzianhütte to the starting point Passhöhe.

Safety information

Your hikes in the Vienna Alps should be a completely beautiful and safe experience.

Please observe the following:

Make sure the route you choose matches your mountain experience and fitness. Check the weather report beforehand. Weather in the mountains can change unexpectedly fast. Therefore, always start properly equipped (appropriate footwear, rain protection). Check whether the huts and snack stations you want to visit are open. Inform someone about your route choice and planned return before you start. Stay on marked trails and avoid shortcuts. Due to dryness, meadows and forests are easily flammable. Treat fire with respect and report any possible fire immediately to the fire department (122). Do not litter and dispose of waste properly.
