Details for: Otterthal Panorama Circular Trail

Brief description

Lovely, family-friendly autumn hike above the Feistritztal community of Otterthal. Numerous small shrines and the Engagement Path as well as magnificent views of the mountain world like Otter and Rax are included.

Description

We start at the Schnitzelwirt Schabauer next to the community center. First we follow the sidewalk to the crossroads. Here we cross the road and follow the sidewalk towards Gloggnitz. Before the sharp left-hand bend, a small asphalt road branches off to the right, which we follow until we come to Goldbergstraße.

From now on, the route initially goes slightly uphill, passing a wayside shrine. At the first sharp bend to the right, we leave the asphalt road and go straight ahead onto a forest path. The path now climbs steeply until we come to a left-hand bend. Here the forest path divides, we turn right and discover the first marker, a yellow and white circle on a tree. This is the Otterthal Panorama Trail.

We follow this until we reach an asphalt road and a farmstead. Caution: Continue left here, not down the road. Only at the next farmstead do we take a sharp right down a tractor track. This offers us beautiful autumnal views of the valley and from here we finally reach the main road, which we cross and then hike into the Alpltal valley.

UP AND DOWN

Now we walk about 300 meters on the asphalt road, past the first settlement to a farm. At the end of the house, we turn right onto a field path. Now we have to climb another slope until we reach a fork in the road at the top under the high-voltage power line. We take the gravel path on the right, which leads downhill. We soon reach another farmstead in the district of Lehen. Immediately afterwards, we discover the signpost that takes us onto the "Verlobungsweg". We can shorten the tour here, as first a narrow road on the right, then a field path leads downhill, soon after which we also discover a green sign on a tree. On the meadow path that follows, you have a wonderful view of the autumn-colored forest of leaves of the otter, which seems to stand tall and mighty before you. Finally, we reach Otterthal. Before crossing the bridge, we turn left onto the cycle path and soon reach our starting point.

Longer version

Those who want to hike longer than one and a half hours follow the Engagement Path, that is, the paved road up to a left-hand curve. Here we turn right off the road and take a shortcut. However, this path soon meets the road to Lehen again. In the village, we follow the bike path back to the starting point on the right. All in all, it is a leisurely route, also suitable for children from six years old, with beautiful views, especially with the colorful display of leaves in autumn.
