Details for: Hiking to Kranichberger Schwaig (from Steyersberger Schwaig)

Brief description

Short and pleasant route from Steyersberger Schwaig up to Kranichberger Schwaig at Wechsel.

Description

The Kranichberger Schwaig is one of the numerous alpine pastures at Wechsel. It is easiest to reach from the Steyersberger Schwaig, which is perfect as a starting point for hikes at Wechsel. In less than an hour, you can reach the hut at around 1540 meters altitude via forest and field paths. Here, the cozy atmosphere and the wonderful view of Rax and Schneeberg invite you to rest and linger. For refreshment, there is, for example, an organic snack board with self-smoked bacon. The hut is open from May to September.

The hike does not require above-average fitness and is therefore also suitable for families. Numerous hiking trails lead to and from the Kranichberger Schwaig, such as the Schwaigenwanderung, which is a circular route to the Arabichl summit at 1595 meters altitude and to the Feistritzer Schwaig. Also from the Feistritz saddle you can reach Kranichberger Schwaig; this route is part of the stage of the Wiener Alpenbogen trail from Mönichkirchen to Feistritz saddle. Another path starts from Kirchberg am Wechsel on a regional route of the Wiener Alpenbogen trail.
