Details for: Hike to the Alpenfreunde Hut Krummbachstein (from Puchberg)

Brief description

A slightly longer hike from Puchberg to the Krummbachstein to the Alpenfreunde Hut, which can be combined with a ride on the Schneeberg railway.

Description

The hike to the Alpenfreunde Hut at Krummbachstein starting from Puchberg initially follows the Schneeberg railway past Galerie & Atelier VOKA, the Hengsthütte, and the Ternitzerhütte. This section can also be combined with a leisurely ride on the Schneeberg railway. After the Ternitzerhütte, you hike via forest paths up to the Krumbachstein summit at 1602 meters altitude. Here awaits an incredibly beautiful view of Hochschneeberg, Rax, and Semmering. The Alpenfreunde Hut at 1,568 meters above sea level offers a perfect resting place. In addition to a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering, this small cozy self-catering hut also offers a bar with schnapps and non-alcoholic juices. If you want to refuel before the summit push, you can also turn off after the Ternitzerhütte to the Baumgartner stop and try the famous Schneeberg Buchtln. You can also reach this stop easily with the Schneeberg railway or hike up (Hike to Baumgartner stop). From there, it takes about 1.5 hours to reach Krummbachstein. Another alternative route leads from Payerbach via the Naturfreunde Hut Knofeleben in 4 hours to the hut at Krummbachstein.

The route along the Wiener Alpenbogen also passes the Alpenfreunde Hut, on the Knofeleben-Edelweißhütte stage. If coming from Schneeberg towards Krumbachstein, this route is the best choice.

Route description Hike to the Alpenfreunde Hut Krummbachstein (from Puchberg)

From the Puchberg am Schneeberg train station, we start through the town along the cog railway tracks. The path along the tracks leads us through the districts of Muthenhof and Hengsttal. Over the Hauslitzsattel, we pass by a place to stop, the Hengsthütte. After the Hengsthütte, we keep left and walk through the high forest. We reach a large alpine meadow with the Ternitzerhütte. Past the Ternitzerhütte, we follow the trail that ends in a path. At the path, we keep left and reach a road again. We walk right along this road and, after the curve, turn onto the path branching off to the right. We now continue straight on the path for about 800 meters, crossing a road on the way. We reach an intersection. Here, we follow the green-marked path straight ahead. The green marking continues right to the Alpenfreunde Hut at Krummbachstein.
