Gfieder
Popis
As the local mountain of Ternitz, the Gfieder stretches 609 meters into the air. It is located in the Northern Limestone Alps and belongs to the district of Neunkirchen. Since 2004, the newly erected, 14-metre-high Gfiederwarte of the Austrian Tourist Club has provided the best views of Semmering, Rax and Schneeberg all the way to Lake Neusiedl.
Four Brothers Tree
The Vierbrüderbaum is an impressive natural monument: the famous black pine dates back to 980 and grew up in four trunks as a result of game browsing. This special tree has experienced a lot in its long life: it was placed under nature protection in 1930 and suffered war damage during the Second World War. Finally, in 1972, lightning struck two of the trunks. That is why there are only two trunks left to admire today.
Hike
On the 2.5-hour hike from St. Johann (Ternitz) via Vöstenhhof, you can see the two-trunked black pine. The trail then continues up to the Gfiederwarte.
