Personal, friendly and reasonably priced: lesser-known ski resorts near Vienna
There are many good reasons why lesser-known ski resorts are well worth a visit. Waiting times are short, prices are moderate and you can easily keep an eye on the little ones.
The natural snow paradise of Unterberg in Muggendorf
The Unterberg, located near Pernitz, offers natural snow, family-friendly runs and beautiful terrain for ski tourers. For the little ones, there is the Fichtel-Wichtel children’s area, complete with magic carpet. For the bigger ones, there are ten slopes and two skiing routes to choose from. The descent into the valley is a considerable 5 kilometres (approx. 3 miles).
The ski resort at the Feistritzsattel
Insider tip for pleasure skiers: the ski resort at the Feistritzsattel near the Dissauer Guesthouse has guaranteed snow. Two ski lifts rise to 1,300 metres (approx. 4,265 feet) above sea level, where there is also an entrance point to the Wechsel Panorama Trail. Family activities and the children’s ski area complete the offering.
The Arabichl ski lift
At the Arabichl ski lift near Kirchberg am Wechsel, skiers can choose between three different family slopes, the forest run or the race slope through the natural snow down into the valley.
The Semmering Happylift
Here, the children are the stars of the show. At the Semmering Happylift, the little ones can learn to ski in a playful way on the wide and shallow slopes. The ride on the toboggan meadow is also fun, especially when it is floodlit. Practicalities: Toboggan hire at the Happylift valley station
Family Ski Park of the Schneeberg Chairlift
The family ski park with T-bar lift, three slopes and two ski routes will delight winter sports enthusiasts of all ages. The magic carpets in the Kinderland are also in operation without snow. If there is enough snow, there is additional winter fun on the toboggan and bob run. The ski school ensures a snow-sure experience on the slopes. Of course, equipment can be rented from the well-equipped ski rental shop.
