Opened in 1854, Breitenstein station is a listed stop on the UNESCO World Hertige site of the Semmering Railway. The building was constructed at the foot of the Kreuzberg at 791 meters above sea level. Today it houses an interesting picture exhibition. There is also a goods wagon siding and a materials shed on the historic station site - and plenty of parking spaces.
Breitenstein: Railway hiking with panoramic views
Breitenstein station is located directly on the famous railroad hiking trail along the Semmering Railway. It is one of the most popular hiking trails in the region. The section of the route in Breitenstein is particularly scenic. The nearby, imposing Fleischmannbrücke and Kalte Rinne viaducts can be discovered along the way. It is around 9.5 kilometers from Semmering to Breitenstein - with panoramic views ranging from breathtaking to magical.
Connection and route
Trains on the Payerbach Reichenau - Semmering line stop in Breitenstein. There are also REX trains on the Vienna - Mürzzuschlag line. At weekends, there are additional trains especially for the numerous hikers.
