Sconarium Bad Schönau

Description

The "Sconarium" in Bad Schönau contains a cultural hall, which is used by the municipality for various events, and an exhibition on the remedy of the spa town Bad Schönau - the natural carbonic acid. The name "Sconarium" is derived from "Sconnawe", the first documented mention of the municipality (1267), and the Latin word "Arium" (room).

A mineral water spring, accidentally discovered at the beginning of the 20th century and proclaimed a medicinal spring, is the basis for the tourist development of the commune. Especially the natural carbonic acid gas, which rises freely together with the mineral water, has a special healing effect in the treatment of circulatory disorders, cardiovascular and vascular diseases. The health tourism development of the local health businesses and the community has been very positive in the past decades. Today, Bad Schönau is one of the communities with the highest number of overnight stays in Lower Austria.

Since this remedy is unique in Austria, it was decided that the excellent effect of the natural carbonic acid gas on human health should be demonstrated. This is intended to encourage local guests, as well as the many visitors and excursionists, to better understand and discover this unique remedy for themselves. The permanent exhibition in the Sconarium contains everything worth knowing about carbonic acid gas from the Big Bang to the present day. A specially composed soundscape, interactive screens and quizzes about carbonic acid create a pleasant atmosphere with a feel-good factor.
