History of the station
Coal mining began in Grünbach am Puchberg in 1823 and 1825, and the market town experienced an economic boom as a result, which was further boosted by the expansion of the Schneeberg railway line. The main line of the Schneeberg railway thus fulfilled important transportation tasks.
The Grünbach mine was closed in 1965 due to the ever-increasing costs of mining and transportation, and in 1966 the Schneebergbahn was integrated into the Südbahn line.
